Some Q&A with one of the founders:

How did the team start?

Myself and my brothers raced in the '80s. We came back to the sport in 1997. The 5 original members all raced at the Thanksgiving NBL race that year. Chase came back from staging and asked what team he was on, I made up "hbr" right there and ordered some t-shirts. We raced in those shirts that year and the team was born.

When did you add more riders?

It would shock us when kids would ask how they get on the "team", and at first we really didn't consider why they were asking. It took us a while to understand how much being on a team meant to some kids. The personal satisfaction of developing new realtionships, and helping new racers was our benefit. We have met some great people, and many of them have stayed with the team since the beginning. We have many racers that raced their first rookie race with us, and are now top tier experts.

What makes the team so successful?

The families and racers. We were lucky to have some quality people get involved in the early years. The Sox family, Robby Metts and his kids all played a huge role in forming the foundation. The tradition of having great families chose to be a part of the team continues to this day.

Winning must be important?

Honestly, winning is fun, but it's the little things that are important. I can't say it enough, but winning is a by product of having good people being involved with the team. A team means different things to different people. We are fortunate to have some great families believe in what hbr is really all about.

What is this team about?

It's about coming together at the races, and helping the kids reach new levels. It could be a 5 rookie making his semi, or a Pro making the podium. It's about like minded individuals coming together for a common purpose. A small racer told me one time that he liked looking around in staging at the Grands and seeing other kids on his team, he said "It made me feel good"........that's what important.
