Addison Oaks Race Report
Well, the family and I (yes, I said family, I finally got the wife to a race) headed out for Addison Oaks yesterday. We decided to camp there so I wouldn't have to make the whole drive in one day. The campsite we got was kind of crappy if I would have known I would have gotten one in the wooded area. Ours was in direct sunlight for most of the day we didn't really have any tree coverage and it was about 85 most of the day.
I did get out to preride the course Sat. evening. I figured I would take it nice and easy so I could really remember the areas where I could pick up some spots. This proved very useful!
I got of the start line in about 4 or 5th position, but as soon as we got out of the first section of singletrack and hit the two track I picked up a few spots. I heard one of my fell racers yell out to go get them when I past him which was nice. I was also nice to have the family cheering me on when I came around for my second lap, usually I don't get to experience that unless we have a good showing from the team which we typically don't.
I ended up 3rd for the day which was bad. I beat both of the guys who beat me a Boyne which was nice. The other two guys must live on the eastside and ride those trails a lot because I never saw them at any of the other races. I believe with my finish today that it will secure my overall spot in the CPS series, which is 1st place. I wasn't planning to do the final race at Pando unless I needed to do it for the points. I can now start to concentrate on the cyclocross season.
We did have one unfortunate event today at the race. One of the guys on my team broke his clavicle. This is the second time this year that someone on our team was injured during a race and both times the riders broke their clavicles. Atleast he was still in pretty good spirits and now he will have the winter to heal.
