Q&A - Personal
What inspires you to compete?
I don't like to compete with people or in relationships. Give me a sport, and I am all in. I've coached first place teams for years, and fundraised endlessly to support those same teams. I love the spirit that goes along with playing and trying. Winning is good, but the thrill of the race is what really counts. It's the rush that you are really living...participating in life......smiling....win or lose....winning is definately a lot more fun...but not coming in first is okay too. The WANT is half the fun of getting there. The appreciation of the WIN is just that much more valuable.
Employment / Experience Summary
I am a project coordinator for a large electrical construction company, and I work at Curves keeping physically fit at night; while inspiring other women to live a healthy life, by eating right and working out. I was involved in youth sports as a team mom, coach, executive board member and booster president. I loved every minute of being on the field and cheering them on to every win they had. I taught Sunday school for 12 years and have always been active in my church. I have been riding dirt bikes for 33 years, just for fun. I am looking forward to seeing what I can do in a competitive environment.
What has been your most embarrassing moment?
I was 17. I asked a women when her baby was due, and she told me that she wasn't pregnant. To this day, I won't ask, no matter how obvious it is.
Why do you like this sport?
The personal challenges and goals you can set for yourself. It is fun to compete while racing, but being able to go out and just try something new, on your own, without having to worry if someone else is going to pass you up.....it's a blast. I want to get to the top of that hill, or through that rut, or over that jump...I will get on top of it, through it, and over it. I did get to the top, and through it and over it. I can do this!! It's fun!!! Whoops, fogged goggles, aching legs, helmet head, (girls can relate to this)being outside, meeting people that have fun doing the same things you like....it is healthy, exciting, family oriented fun. What's not to like?
How's Life Treating You?
My divorce was final in May of 07. My ex wouldn't share the toys, so instead of griping, and becoming that bitter women, who is still complaining 10 years later, I said..Great, I get to get new gear and a new bike!! I am going to enjoy the rest of my life. I want to have fun. I want to be excited! I want to laugh and smile, and try new things!! I am ready to do the things I love.....riding bikes is a passion. Racing will be a new experience, but one I am looking forward to. Work is good, friends are awesome, and I may not know what the future holds, but I do know who holds the future!!! My life is going to ROCK!
More Stuff
When did you first start riding?
I was 13. One of the boys in the neighborhood taught me. I popped the clutch, and threw us both off the back of the bike...never did that again!
What kind of bike do you ride?
CRF150RB 08 Big Wheel.............just got it......IT KICKS BUTT!!
Do you belong to any clubs?
I used to go out riding with R.U.T.S. (Racers Under the Son). I will need to get it together for a little bit, before I start getting involved at a club level again. I am really looking forward to the social element of riding. I love group rides, and just feeling the desert. I have really missed this.
Are you interested in competing?
Sure, why not. Do they have a catagory for my age group? If so, I'm in.....I've only competed in the Moto Olympics at R.U.T.S. I won some individual events, but nothing overall. I just do it for fun....but maybe...something could come of it...it's never too late...and I feel like I am just getting started!!!
Do you have any other sports that you participate in?
I snow ski, water ski and ride dirt bikes....I was always involved at the coaching level with team sports that my kids participated in...I like the river and the mountains and the desert...and the sports that they entertain!!!
