Scott Wiseman: Motocrossing With Pride
Patti Smith for 1Tail, Monday, May 19, 2008
Temple, TX - Scott Wiseman, 31, has been married since 2002 and is the proud father of two boys – Chase, 7 and Kaleb, 4. In 2005, with no prior experience of any sort on a bike, he decided he was going to take up motocross racing. Totally against his wife’s wishes he went and bought himself an ’03 YZ40. With tips from buddies he taught himself how to ride a motorcycle. Due to the fact that he was spending “way too much time riding”, months later he had to get rid of it, at his wife’s “request”. But, it was too late. The motocross bug had already bitten him and, six months later he bought himself an ’02 KX250, for $2500, cash. This time he made sure that he had his wife’s blessing.

Scott started racing in Aug 2007, in local tracks, around Temple , Texas . He currently rides, practices and races at the Waco Eagles Racing Track, with other locals. When asked how much he spent on an average racing weekend Scott did the math and came up with “approximately $400 a month, twice a month. I try not to be tooooo rough on the machine.” He might as well. His new motorcycle is a brand-spankin’ new 2008 YZ450, which cost him $7200.00.

Show me a rider that hasn’t had an accident or suffered an injury and I’ll show you someone who’s not putting their heart into it. Wiseman is no exception. Last year Scott was involved in an accident, while racing, where he “blew up” his knee. He was chasing the guy in first place, the bike slid under him and he crashed into a tree. That resulted in a torn meniscus and a partial ACL tear – two months later, he was back in the saddle practicing. "This accident not only hurt me physically," Scott stated, "it also hurt my Pride. A few seconds later I got ran over by another racer, who then fell on top of me. That was humiliating."

What are Scott’s plans for the future? “For now, I’m just going to continue having fun, keep practicing and racing, locally. When I finish beating all of the local guys, I may join the AMA and race there. I don’t know when that’ll happen though. Right now, I’m happy with my new sport. It’s a sport I love to do. I can’t think of anything else in the world I’d rather be doing.” On the home-front, things have changed dramatically. He’s bought his wife a 4-wheeler and the whole family accompanies him on racing days. Chase and Kaleb have even gotten involved in the sport and they LOVE it.

Keep your eyes on this guy...he races with Pride.
